Xavier Stocca doing Taikyoku Sono San

Here is a video of a junior student, Xavier Stocca, doing Taikyoku Sono San at an Australian Martial Arts Championships NSW event in 2011, filmed on his parents' smartphone. While it's not the best rendition of the kata, it's nonetheless a very good one, and should be more than enough for other junior students to learn from while preparing for their 8th kyu grading (blue belt).

Sensei Shah at the 2011 All Australia Karate Championships

Sensei Shah entered in both the Veteran's Black Belt and Open Black Belt divisions for kata, points, and freestyle sparring. Needless to say, he's getting a bit slow for the sparring, but he managed to get 1st Place in both kata divisions, doing Sushiho kata - a required kata for our 3rd Dan gradings. Here's a video of his kata in in the Open Male Black Belt division.

Marco Stocca at the 2010 AMAC State Titles.

Marco and his brother Xavier have had a good year this year with regard to trophies, with over 40 of them between the two of them. Below is a video of Marco and some of his performance at the 2010 AMAC State Titles. Xavier also managed to take 1st Place (and hence State Champion) in the 8-10 Freestyle Sparring division. Both of them managed to take State Championships in Freestyle AND Points Sparring, as well as 3rd place in kata at the ACT State Titles some weeks earlier.

2010 Fire Bo at Newtown dojo

One of students at Newtown does a bit of fire stick twirling at Uni, and he brought his fire stick along. We all decided to give it a go, and here's the result when Senpai John does it!

2009 Marrickville Festival Demonstration

Kata Demonstration at Kancho Johannes Wong's Dojo 25th Anniversary

Shihan Doug, Sensei Shah, and Senpais Jenny and André were invited (as one of only a few non-Goju Ryu clubs) to contribute a something to the anniversary of Kancho Johannes Wong's Goju Ryu dojo. The result was a demo of Saiha Kata with and without bo, a couple of applications of Saiha kata, and an insteresting variation on Pinan Sono Go, originally developed by John Pegios, Senpai Ben Osland, and Alexander Yussof.

Freestyle Team Bo Kata - John Pegios and Senpai Ben Osland

John Pegios and Ben Osland have been working on a freestyle bo kata, with a lightweight bo. This is a class demo, caught by a camera phone. Once it's been perfected, we'll do a proper video of it and replace this one, but for now, this one will have to do.

2007 AMAC State Finals - Colts Heavyweight Final

Here's where Alexander and Michael slug it out. Alexander wins with a few select high kicks, but it's their second fight. Michael won the first time, and is now waiting for the tie-breaker.

2008 Demonstrations

We sent a team to the festival, to show what we could do. This is part of it. It also shows that you have to hold the boards tight and stand your ground.

Here's Jasmine Sullivan's phone cam video of Sensei Shah doing a couple of board breaks at the Newtown Festival.

Saiha kata with bo

Saiha kata is the signature IFK kata, and our logo, the wave, is derived from it. At the 2004 IFK Black Belt camp, the then Sensei (now Shihan) Dave Lund-Regan introduced bo and bo kata to the IFK. This video shows the IFK 'translation' of Saiha kata to bo.
