KARATE FOR CHILDREN
Karate for children should not be about self-defence and hard training.
The primary benefit to them is their increased awareness, both of
their bodies and their surroundings. Karate training will improve
awareness of their physical capabilities, strengths, and weaknesses,
and will improve on all of these. This in turn will lead to a greater
awareness of their surroundings, while also keeping the child entertained.
Children will come to enjoy and revel in the flexibility, strength,
stamina, coordination, and speed that they will develop through
regular training in Kyokushin karate, and it will benefit them in
most other sports in which they may choose to participate.
Additional benefits include respect, both for themselves and others,
better health, team spirit, and a culture of participating in a
physical activity that can be practiced for a lifetime.
Kyokushin karate encourages and develops an attitude of perseverance
and determination. These personal attributes developed through
karate training can also be used in their personal lives, helping
them through many situations that require it.
Children's classes normally only last one hour, though as they
get older, they may choose to partcipate in an extra hour in the
adult class until they fully graduate to the adult class. The
normal age group for children is 6-11, though younger children
may sometimes be capable of maintaining focus long enough.
